Asma binti Abu Bakar As-Siddiq was born in Makkah before Islam was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Her parents were Abu Bakar As-Siddiq and Qattylah binti Uzza. Abu Bakar was only 21 when Asma’ was born.
Asma’ was one of the first believers in Islam. She was the fifteenth person to accept the religion. She begun to learn about Islam through her father, who was a close companion of the prophet (pbuh).
Asma’ was a very brace and sincere person. She was always loyal to the people around her. One day, when she was carrying dates in a basket on her head, the prophet was passing by and wanted to help bring Asma’ home. Asma’ refused the request politely because she was afraid her husband would be upset if she came home with another man.
She has shown her bravery throughout her life. She is very courageous and very cofident of doing anything for the sake of Allah. She fought in the battle of Yarmouk with her strength. The muslims were totally outnumbered, even with strong women and brave boys but they were still confident.
One day, after her father and the Prophet (pbuh) migrated, Asma’ was left with her blind and old grandfather, Abu Quhafah. When he realized that his son had migrated, he was sad. Then he was worried whether he had left any cash for him and his family. He said that they had about four or five thousand Dinars in the house and her father had taken it all for the needs of the journey. But she comforted the old man saying there was plenty in the house. To convince him she collected some pebbles that were of the size of Dinars, these she put in a pot and spread a cloth over them. Then she guided his old hands over the cloth, Abu Quhafah was very pleased that his son had not left them bear handed. Asma’ had done this for the old man’s peace of mind, but in truth Abu Bakr As-Siddiq with a strong faith in Allah, had taken his all to spend in the way of Allah and His Messenger.
Sadly, Asma’ binti Abu Bakar, the brave warrior, the loyal wife, the sincere granddaughter died a few day after his son was killed. When she died, she was 100 years old. She lived a splendid life, but her stories lives on until now…..
